Disneyland closes 10 attractions before 70th anniversary celebration

Disneyland will close 10 attractions for seasonal refurbishments as the Anaheim theme park resort prepares for the kickoff of the 70th anniversary celebration in May.

Matterhorn Bobsleds, Soarin’ Around the World, Enchanted Tiki Room, Dumbo the Flying Elephant, Mad Tea Party, King Arthur Carrousel, Chip ‘n Dale’s Gadget Coaster, Sorcerer’s Workshop, Anna & Elsa’s Royal Welcome and “Fantasmic” will temporarily close in April or May as part of the standard refurbishment schedule at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure.

The 10 new attraction closures join Indiana Jones Adventure, It’s a Small World, Pixie Hollow and Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln that were already shuttered for refurbishment.

Three popular Fantasyland attractions will close for brief refurbishments in the next few weeks: Dumbo the Flying Elephant (April 22-23), Mad Tea Party (May 5-6) and King Arthur Carrousel (May 7-8).

Two more Fantasyland attractions will close for longer refurbishments expected to extend through the end of May. Enchanted Tiki Room will close April 28 and Matterhorn Bobsleds will close May 5 with no return dates set.

The Sorcerer’s Workshop and Anna & Elsa’s Royal Welcome in the Animation Academy at Disney California Adventure will both close for refurbishment April 28 through May 12.

Soarin’ Around the World will briefly return April 22-27 after a two-month run as Soarin’ Over California during DCA’s Food & Wine Festival before closing for a short refurb April 28 through May 1.

Chip ‘n’ Dale’s Gadget Coaster in Disneyland’s Toontown will be closed for refurbishment on May 19 through at least the end of the month.

The “Fantasmic” nighttime spectacular on Disneyland’s Rivers of America will be dark on April 21-24, April 28-May 1, May 4-8 and May 12-15.

Indiana Jones Adventure is expected to return on April 25 after a five-week refurbishment.

It’s a Small World in Fantasyland is not expected to return until May 9 as the boat ride undergoes an extended seasonal refurbishment.

The Pixie Hollow meet-and-greet area in Fantasyland where visitors shrink down to the size of a fairy to visit Tinker Bell has been closed since September and is not expected to return before June.

The “Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln” show closed in April and is not expected to return until fall 2026 after the yearlong run of Disneyland’s 70th anniversary celebration.

Walt Disney — A Magical Life” will play by itself during its initial run when the new animatronic show debuts July 17 and will then be in rotation with “Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln” in Disneyland’s Main Street Opera House.
