LOS ANGELES — Veteran relief pitcher Daniel Hudson and top prospect Dalton Rushing were among the list of 20 non-roster players invited to Dodgers spring training, the team announced on Friday.
The 20 NRIs include 11 players with major-league experience. That group is topped by the 36-year-old Hudson who returns after considering retirement last season when a second knee injury sidelined him just three games after he returned from a major knee injury suffered in 2022.
The Dodgers declined a club option in Hudson’s contract following the 2023 season but re-signed him to a minor-league deal that will pay him $2 million if he makes the major-league roster with another $2 million in potential incentives.
Six other pitchers with major-league experience are on the list of NRIs including former San Diego Padres reliever Nabil Crismatt, well-traveled left-hander T.J. McFarland and former Miami Marlins starter Elieser Hernandez.
Crismatt, 29, spent most of his five seasons in the big leagues with the Padres, where he had a 3.83 ERA in 102 games. He made just one big-league appearance with the Arizona Diamondbacks last season.
McFarland, 34, has spent parts of 11 seasons with five big-league teams, posting a 4.14 ERA in 354 career games primarily as a lefty specialist.
Hernandez, 28, had a 10-21 record and 5.04 ERA in parts of five seasons with the Marlins before spending last season in the New York Mets’ organization. Injuries have been a recurring problem for Hernandez.
Left-hander Stephen Gonsalves and right-handers Jesse Hahn and Eduardo Salazar also have major-league experience. One of the Dodgers’ top pitching prospects, River Ryan, is also on the NRI list, giving him his first experience in a big-league spring training camp.
