Dodgers’ Shohei Ohtani leads All-Star voting after Phase I, guaranteed a spot in lineup

Shohei Ohtani is the star of starts.

The Dodgers’ two-way star led all players in Phase 1 of All-Star voting with 3,341,257 total votes, MLB announced on Thursday. The honor guarantees that Ohtani will start at DH for the National League in this year’s All-Star Game on July 14 in Philadelphia.

Ohtani had the distinction of having led both the National League (2025) and the American League in All-Star voting (2023). But this is the first time he has led the overall voting. He is the third Dodger to lead All-Star voting since the balloting was returned to the fans in 1970. Davey Lopes led in 1980 and Cody Bellinger in 2019.

Finalists at each position were also announced and the Dodgers are well represented there.

Dodgers catcher Will Smith (currently on the injured list) and Atlanta’s Drake Baldwin are the finalists at catcher for the NL team. Freddie Freeman and another Brave, Matt Olson, are the finalists at first base. Mookie Betts and Washington’s C.J. Abrams are the finalists at shortstop with Max Muncy and Phillies third baseman Alec Bohm the finalists at their position.

Two Dodgers – Andy Pages and Teoscar Hernandez (also currently on the IL) – are among the six finalists for the National League outfield spots. Atlanta’s Ronald Acuña Jr. and Michael Harris II are also finalists along with New York Mets outfielder Juan Soto and Philadelphia’s Brandon Marsh.

Pages, Freeman and Muncy were the top vote-getters at their positions during Phase 1 of the voting.

The second phase of voting begins Monday at 9 a.m. PT and will determine the rest of the starting lineups. Voting can be done at MLB.com/vote, all 30 team websites, the MLB App and the MLB Ballpark App and runs through July 2 at 9 a.m. PT
