Dom Pérignon and Damien Hirst are giving Champagne a decidedly artistic upgrade with a lavish duo of bottles featuring new work from the acclaimed British artist.

The famed and at-times-controversial artist lends his considerable skill set to two new label designs, an extension of his Kaleidoscope series. The partnership proved a natural fit, bridging the gap between the careful curation of a wine vintage and the thoughtful artwork of Hirst, the Champagne brand said.

“The edition brings together art, creation and winemaking at the meeting point between craftsmanship and imagination, tradition, and reinvention,” Dom Pérignon said in a statement announced the luxe launch. The release marks another crossover between the worlds of art, design and champagne, the maison said, having worked with the likes of rock legend Iggy Pop and actress Zoë Kravitz on a limited-edition 2025 series.

Hirst noted that it made perfect sense to team with the iconic winemaker, a creative fit that offered the artist room to experiment. “I’ve said anything done well is art. Music, food, wine, furniture, anything. And Dom Pérignon is one of those brands that have the kind of loyalty where someone would get it tattooed onto their body,” he said in a Q&A with the company. “When you’re making an artwork, it takes time: You have an idea, you play around with it, it starts to come to life, you think “‘Oh, no that’s not quite right,’” … there might be mistakes, so you tweak things, but then it eventually goes where it’s supposed to go.”

“It’s the same with Dom Pérignon, it’s a really long and meticulous process,” Hirst added. noting that it was also an honor to join a long line of artists that have worked with the company, from Warhol to Murakami. The lavish, colorful labels and accompanying luxury packaging play off the instantly recognizable shield design favored by the winemaker, and Hirst notes there are distinct parallels between the symphony of his Kaleidoscope series and the assemblage of grapes found in each vintage. “I think Dom Pérignon shares this trust in me in the creative process, in not determining too much in advance… basically it’s like working with nature,” he said.

A deep blue hue adorns the Dom Pérignon Vintage 2018 release, while Hirst’s use of warm pink “evokes the expression of Pinot Noir in the Rosé Vintage 2010,” the winemaker said. “The two vintages are united by a complicity that only iconic characters know how to weave,” the company added. “One solar and taut, the other more intimate and shadowed, they form a highly collectable duo where art and a wine enter dialogue.” To pop a bottle while supplies last, find out more about Dom Pérignon x Damien Hirst online now.
