Denver Public Schools will close 13 of its schools Thursday because of anticipated “extreme heat,” the district announced.
The National Weather Service is forecasting a high near 99 degrees in the Denver area Thursday.
Another two schools — Johnson Elementary and Bryant Webster ECE-8 — will release students early because of the expected high temperatures.
Bryant Webster will release students at 12:20 p.m. and Johnson Elementary will dismiss its classes at 12:30 p.m. Both schools will run their normal bus services and provide students with lunch, DPS officials said in a news release Wednesday.
Here are the Denver schools that won’t open Thursday:
- Asbury Elementary
- Bear Valley Middle School
- Bradley International School
- Brown Elementary
- Edison Elementary
- Lincoln Elementary
- McMeen Elementary
- Park Hill Elementary
- Skinner Middle School
- Steck Elementary
- Stephen Knight Center for Early Education
- University Park Elementary

Not every DPS school has air conditioning, although the district has been working to add cooling to remaining buildings.
The nearly $1 billion bond passed by Denver voters last year earmarked $240 million toward the district’s air conditioning initiative.
