Driver resists arrest, crashes and batters officers in Roseland traffic stop: police

Police officers and the motorist they were trying to pull over are recovering at hospitals after a traffic stop that turned violent late Thursday in Roseland.

Around 10:30 p.m., officers conducted a traffic stop on the 22-year-old driver in the 9700 block of South Princeton Street when the driver resisted arrest, reentered his vehicle and attempted to flee, Chicago police said.

The driver then crashed his vehicle into a ditch, and threatened and assaulted two officers during a physical fight before he was eventually arrested, police said.

The officers suffered non-life threatening injuries and were taken to an area hospital for treatment, officials said.

The driver, who was arrested, was taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital for observation.

Charges were pending.
