During Breast Cancer Awareness Month, people wear pink, donate to charities, volunteer, encourage mammograms and support survivors. Activities include participating in fundraising walks, sharing stories, and providing emotional support to those affected by the disease.
Lousine Adjemian, a double breast cancer survivor and mammography educator for RadNet Inc., started the Dance Your Way to Health program last year to inspire and help women to thrive and move ahead. “I am so grateful to be able to give back to other women going through breast cancer,” she said.
Adjemian joined breast cancer patients, survivors, and their families in Tarzana on Saturday October 11, to “dance their way to health.”
Among those who attended the dance was Monique Jenkins, a resident of Porter Ranch, who said, “Exercise is key to staying healthy and it also helps people mentally. It’s so wonderful to see survivors and patients with breast cancer enjoying themselves at this dance event.”
Zerina Turan from Sherman Oaks agreed, saying, “This is my first time coming to the event and my sister is currently going through breast cancer. It is so wonderful to have a community to share stories with and be able to dance, laugh and be together.”
Jason McKellop, medical director of Breastlink — a network of breast health centers — said, “Dancing is a great form of cardio exercise. Consistent physical exercise has been associated with improved outcomes as it relates to breast cancer diagnosis and treatment.”
