Earthquake rattles area close to Warner Springs in San Diego County: 3.5 magnitude registered on Aug. 19

SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CALIF. — A 3.5 magnitude quake shook close to Warner Springs, about 56 miles south-southwest of San Diego, around midnight Wednesday, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

At 12:31 a.m., a tremor rattled the region at a depth of 3 miles, with its epicenter about 9 miles north of Warner Springs.

If you noticed the earthquake, you can report it via the USGS Felt Report form. 101 people have submitted responses through the agency’s online form, indicating they experienced weak shaking. According to the USGS DYFI report, residents in cities such as San Diego, Sun City, Wildomar, Menifee and Hemet reported feeling the quake.

Past week’s tremors

In the past week, there have been two quakes greater than magnitude 2.5 centered in the region. The larger one was a 2.6 quake that was detected close to Ocotillo Wells on Aug. 13. The other, of magnitude 2.4, occurred near Palomar Observatory on Aug. 17.
