An East Bay resident died in a water emergency at the Point Reyes National Seashore, authorities said.
The incident happened Sunday afternoon at North Beach, when the man was seen 100 feet off shore, said Brianna Rowland, spokesperson for the Marin County Fire Department. A friend attempted to rescue the man. When first responders arrived, the man was on the beach.
A California Highway Patrol helicopter crew transported the man to a hospital in Sonoma County, where he was pronounced dead. The man was Adi Handach, 30, of Oakland, the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday.
The cause of death is under investigation, said Emily Fuller, a spokesperson for the agency.
