
Passengers travelling on the Elizabeth line have faced a smorgasbord of issues today after faulty power lines and a trackside fire.
The Elizabeth line is experiencing severe delays between Whitechapel and Shenfield while engineers repair broken overhead wires.
The stretch between Paddington and Whitechapel has minor delays.
Earlier, trains to Heathrow Airport were suspended after a trackside fire in west London, which has since been resolved.
Frustrated passengers took to social media after the disruption this morning.
One wrote on X: ‘Why can’t the Elizabeth line work fully!!’
Danielle, who was travelling to work on the Elizabeth line from Woolwich to Bond Street, said she was late to her morning meetings and is ‘playing catch up for the rest of the morning with other tasks’ because of the disruption.
She told Metro that before it opened, the Elizabeth line ‘sounded like the best thing to happen in transport,’ but it has been hampered by delays because it is ‘built on horrific outdated infrastructure.’
A Network Rail spokesperson told Metro: ‘We’re sorry for the disruption to services between Heathrow Terminals and London Paddington.
‘This was due to a trackside fire earlier this morning in the Heathrow area, which has now been extinguished.
‘The lines have reopened, but while train times return to normal we’d advise passengers to check National Rail Enquiries or their train operator for the latest travel updates.’
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson told Metro: ‘We were called to a small trackside fire in West Drayton at 0730. The fire was under control by 0751.’
