There’s drama afoot over at ABC. This week, Live with Kelly and Ryan host Kelly Ripa threw shade at the “gross” and “creepy” Bachelorfranchise, which she said “disgusts” her. By that evening, Ripa’s remarks made their way to the franchise’s creator, Mike Fleiss, who insisted she go “easy” on The Bachelor and Bachelorette, as his shows “pay [her] salary.” The ABC personalities’ feud could have ended there, but on Thursday morning, Grey’s Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo chimed in with her own criticism of Fleiss, saying, “We don’t attack successful women on our network and men certainly cannot take credit for their success.” Meredith Grey: 1, Mike Fleiss: 0.
On Tuesday’s episode of Live with Kelly and Ryan, Ripa’s co-host Ryan Seacrest announced that Hannah Brown, the current Bachelorette, would be stopping by the show this week. “You know how I feel about this show. It disgusts me,” said Ripa, according to E! News’ recap. She then turned her attention to Colton’s season of The Bachelor, where viewers were first introduced to Hannah B. “I was disgusted because I couldn’t stand the idea of 25 exceptional women fighting over one ordinary fella, in my opinion. You know how I feel, ladies! We are too special to be fighting over a guy.” Ripa went on to say that The Bachelorette, which features 30 men vying for one woman’s heart, isn’t much better. “I found that show just as creepy but in a completely different way,” said Ripa. “I was like, ‘Ew. Ew, eww, eww.'”
Late Tuesday night, Fleiss – an outspoken Twitter personality – saw fit to respond. “Easy, Kelly Ripa,” he tweeted, tagging the Live host. ” The Bachelor franchise pays your salary!”
Fleiss’ tweet was met with some backlash from fans, but no one came out as harshly as Pompeo. “Okay @fleissmeister… that’s some handle bro!” she wrote. “Your show does NOT pay @KellyRipa salary. Also, we don’t attack successful women on our network and men certainly cannot take credit for their success.” Pompeo concluded with a scathing dig at The Bachelor franchise. “Don’t get me started on your show cuz I’m a savage…. #bachelorsoooowhite.” Hell yeah, girl.
Fleiss has yet to respond, but if he does, let’s hope he comes armed with an apology.
The Bachelorette airs Mondays at 8/7c on ABC. Kelly Ripa will definitely not be watching.
