The winners of a £114.9million EuroMillions jackpot have revealed the incredibly mundane thing they bought first after scooping the jackpot.

Patrick and Frances Connolly from County Armagh, Northern Ireland, won the £114,969,775 on New Year’s Day in 2019.

It was the fourth biggest UK lottery prize ever claimed at the time, and the couple have since moved to Hartlepool and have given £60 million to their family and friends.

They also bought a mansion with seven acres of land in County Durham, with the couple’s Jaguar, Aston Martin and Alfa Romeo parked outside.

But the first thing Frances, 58, bought with her new fortune was a pack of M&S knickers.

She told The Sun: ‘We left our home with nothing, to keep us safe in case anybody found out about it and came to the house. And they did – within minutes.

‘When we arrived at a hotel in England on Friday night, ahead of the press conference, I had to phone our Fiona and say, “Will you nip down to Marks & Spencer?”. ‘She got a pack of three pairs for 12 quid.’

The couple went on to buy some more luxurious items, with Frances buying her dad a gold pocket watch.

They still do not like to flaunt their cash, with Frances revealing they once turned down an offer to upgrade their flights to first class.

Frances also starts the day off with a swim at her home, where she is joined by her group of friends.

She has also set up two charitable foundations, one named after her mum Kathleen Graham and the PFC trust in Hartlepool.

This has made them busier than ever as the couple attend meetings and travel to and from Ireland where they are doing up a house.
