Jia Xin Teo murdered her baby by hiding her in a cereal box
The 22-year-old gave birth to an alive, full-term baby on March 4 then placed her daughter in a cereal box.
Teo wrapped the box in a plastic bag then placed the tragic newborn in a suitcase for two days until the alarm was finally raised.
By this point, the tragic baby girl had already died.
Teo is now facing a life sentence after being found guilty of murder at Warwickshire Crown Court.
The student tried to claim she she had been hearing voices that told her to kill or harm the baby.
Jurors heard she hid her pregnancy and the birth from her flatmates.
She went eventually went to the hospital on March 6 – knowing by that point the baby “would certainly be dead”.
Police were called to her home after medics noticed signs that Teo had given birth despite her denials.
James Leslie Francis, of the Crown Prosecution Service, said: “Jia Xin Teo hid her pregnancy from everyone she knew and arrived in the UK knowing she was likely to give birth here.
“She had opportunity to seek help but instead chose to carry her pregnancy in secret and give birth alone.
“Baby Teo was alive after birth and could have survived but Jia Xin Teo made the decision to place her inside a cereal box knowing it would kill her.
“Today, the jury has made the decision to convict her for her actions and I would like to thank them for their careful consideration in this complex and sensitive case.”
Teo will be sentenced at a later date.
