FAA extends flight limits at O’Hare Airport

The Federal Aviation Administration announced Friday it will limit flights out of O’Hare International Airport for another year.

The FAA had already imposed flight limits earlier this year that were set to remain in place through Oct. 24. Under the order, O’Hare’s daily flights were capped at 2,708 down from the 3,080 daily flights airlines had planned for this summer.

The order was extended until Oct. 30, 2027.

The agency said the order was extended because construction projects and airfield adjustments expected to continue through next summer will limit airport capacity and affect operations.

“FAA finds that significant delay and operational disruption would occur at [O’Hare if the [O’Hare] Order were to expire as originally scheduled,” the agency said in a statement.

The Chicago Department of Aviation did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
