Facebook and Instagram are down for the second time since Sunday.

The outage, which began at around 12.45pm, has so far impacted more than 5,000 users across the two social media platforms.

Of them, as of 1pm, 4,400 were struggling to access Facebook, while nearly 600 were struggling with Instagram.

Most users are experiencing issues using the mobile apps, according to Downdetector, which monitors internet disruptions.

One Facebook user said: ‘Urgh down again. Getting, “Sorry, something went wrong. We’re working on it and we’ll get it fixed as soon as we can.”‘

Thousands of users in the US and Spain are also experiencing problems.

Meta, which owns the social media platforms as well as WhatsApp, is reporting no known issues on its status page.
