The family of a 16-year-old girl killed with two friends when their car veered into a river has paid tribute.
The death of three teenagers shocked Sunderland on Tuesday after a car they were travelling in plunged into the River Wear.
Zara Shaw, from Houghton-le-Spring, Tyne and Wear, died alongside Jackson Duke, 17, and Luke Etheridge, 16, when the vehicle crashed off a bridge and sank into the water.
Her heartbroken family said in a statement: ‘Zara, you came into this world with a fight, and we know you left it doing the same.
‘You had a zest for life and life loved you.

‘Having fun along the way with your dance videos, infectious laugh and smile, you have always been our beloved daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, cousin, girlfriend and best friend.’
They continued: ‘To everyone who has been in Zara’s life, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

‘Rest safe our beautiful girl, Zara.’
One occupant of the car, a 17-year-old boy, managed to reach safety with minor injuries following the crash on Panns Bank at 1.30pm.
He was arrested on suspicion of death by dangerous driving before being released on bail pending further inquiries, the police said.
