Firefighters knock down blaze at O’Hare apartment complex

Firefighters battled a multi-alarm fire at a multi-unit apartment complex in the O’Hare community on the Northwest Side on Friday afternoon.

The blaze broke out about 4 p.m. at 8629 W. Foster Ave., prompting a response from the Chicago Fire Department, officials said.

Crews took about an hour Friday afternoon to put down an apartment fire in the O’Hare neighborhood. One firefighter was transported to a hospital for treatment.

Residents were evacuated from the building near Dirksen Elementary School as firefighters conducted defensive operations, officials said. An EMS Plan 1 was called.

The fire was struck out at 4:53 p.m., officials told the Sun-Times.

One member of the Fire Department was taken to Lutheran General Hospital with minor injuries, officials said.
