Former Bears quarterback Jay Cutler will serve four days in jail next month after striking a plea deal stemming from an Oct. 17 DUI arrest in Franklin, Tenn.
Cutler rear-ended the car in front of him, refused a field sobriety test and took a blood draw. A driver claimed Cutler offered them $2,000 to not call the police. He was charged with DUI, gun possession — he had a rifle and a loaded pistol — while intoxicated, failure to exercise due care and implied consent. He was released on $5,000 bond.
According to WSMV-TV, Cutler agreed on Tuesday to plead guilty to one count misdemeanor DUI. He forfeited the pistol and had the weapon charge dismissed as part of the plea deal. He’ll pay $350 and serve four days in Williamson County (Tenn.) Jail beginning Sept. 29. His driver’s license was revoked and he will be forced to serve one year’s probation.
The Bears traded for Cutler in 2008 and, following a seven-year, $126 million contract extension following the 2013 season, stayed with Bears until 2016. He is the Bears’ leading career passer and holds second, third and fourth place on the Bears’ single season passing list. He held fifth place, too, until rookie quarterback Caleb Williams threw for 3,51 yards last season.
Since leaving the Bears, Cutler has played for the Dolphins, worked for Fox and on “Inside the NFL” and appeared on his ex-wife Kristin Cavallari’s reality show. He hosts a podcast, “Take It Outside,” with former Navy SEAL Sam Mackey.
