He attempted to grab the child’s arm but was stopped by the woman, before he then fled towards a nearby McDonald’s.

The child was uninjured in the attempted abduction and is now being supported by officers.

West Midlands Police is working with their family to help find the man, as officers also scour CCTV footage and speak to people in the area.

Insp Matt Shaw from Birmingham Police said: “We understand how distressing the incident will be to the community but rest assured we are taking this incredibly serious.

“We are appealing for anyone who was in the vicinity at the time to speak to us if you haven’t already.

“We’d ask everyone in the area to support us by coming forward with any information they may have and to check door-bell cameras or dashcams in their cars, for any footage which may assist our enquiries.

“We have stepped up our patrols in the area. If you see officers out and about and have any concerns please speak to us.”

If you have any information which could help with the investigation, you can contact West Midlands Police through the Live Chat function on its website.

Alternatively, you can call 101, quoting reference 20/225234/25.
