Specialty grocer Foxtrot is set to open a new location in Lake View and another in Lincoln Park next year, the company said Wednesday.
The Lake View site takes over a former Ann Sather Restaurant space and will be part of the new mixed-use residential building Belmora at 917 W. Belmont Ave.
“Foxtrot was created as a neighborhood gathering place, and Belmora’s walkable, transit-oriented location makes it a natural fit for our next Chicago store,” Foxtrot Chief Operating Officer Jason DaPisa said in a statement.
The five-story Belmora project by Chicago-based Mavrek Development will have 46 apartments. The first phase at 919 W. Belmont Ave. is expected to open in the fall. Pre-leasing is already underway by real estate firm Cross Street. The second phase, at 917 W. Belmont, will also have 46 apartments, Crain’s reported.
Mavrek and Cross Street didn’t respond to a request for comment.
Foxtrot’s second location is expected to be at 2600 N. Clark St. in Lincoln Park. The site, once home to Affordable Portables and Dunlay’s, will be a mixed-use building with retail and apartments, including affordable units.
In April 2024, Foxtrot’s parent company Outfox Hospitality abruptly closed all of its locations then a month later filed Chapter 7 bankruptcy. Foxtrot’s assets were sold in an online auction to New York investment firm Further Point Enterprises for $2.2 million in May 2024. Further Point brought in key players from the old company, including Foxtrot co-founder Mike LaVitola as chairman.
In the two years since its store closings, the upscale grocer has reopened nine Chicago locations, as well as two stores in Dallas.
Prior to closing, Foxtrot had a location in Lake View at North Clark Street and West Diversey Parkway. Now, the company is plotting its return to the neighborhood.
“We’re excited to rejoin the Lakeview community and provide residents and neighbors with a convenient home for any daypart that suits their needs, whether it be morning coffee and breakfast tacos, lunchtime sweets and a fresh panini, or a bottle of wine and that last grocery item to complete the dinner plans,” DaPisa said.
