PLEASANTON — A freeway stop for a traffic violation ended with the California Highway Patrol arresting a man on suspicion of felony grand theft, the agency said.
The arrest happened last Friday following the 10:50 p.m. stop on northbound Interstate 680 just south of the Stoneridge Mall Road exit.
In a statement, the CHP said they stopped the sedan for a traffic violation and that during the stop, an officer saw a large amount of clothing and detergent in the car. The CHP said the clothing consisted of Nike and Adidas products and still had the security cards attached.
Officers arrested the driver, because there was no reasonable explanation coming for why the clothes and detergent were in the vehicle, the CHP said. They took the items into evidence.
The CHP has a task force that works on retail theft and in the wake of this arrest encouraged others to report theft incidents by visiting their public web page at www.chp.ca.gov/notify-chp/.
