
You never realise how good having six weeks off in the Summer is while at school until it’s gone.
Well, at the very least, we’ve got the sixth bank holiday of the year coming up on August 25, which means we have a long weekend.
If you’re one of these lucky ones with an extra day off, you might see the Summer Bank Holiday as the perfect time to do your grocery shopping.
But businesses can decide to close altogether or open for a shorter period of time during the long weekend – including supermarkets.
Don’t worry, to make sure you don’t turn up to find the shutters down, we’ve taken a look at this weekend’s opening times for ASDA, Co-op, Aldi, Tesco, Iceland, Lidl, Morrisons, Waitrose and Sainsbury’s.

Many supermarket stores will be open during their normal hours, though shoppers are advised to check with their local branch beforehand.
Some – particularly larger branches – will open later and/or close earlier, so employees can finish earlier or start later to enjoy the bank holiday.
When is ASDA open over the August bank holiday?
Most ASDA supermarkets will be open on Monday, August 25, from 8am.
But what times their shutters go down will vary between shops, with smaller shops closing at 6pm or 8pm.
Superstores will either close at 10pm or be open 24 hours, while it’ll be business as usual for petrol stations and Express chains.

When is Co-op open over the August bank holiday?
Co-op stores, whether they’re on the high street or in a petrol station, will be open as usual on the August Bank Holiday, from 7am to 10pm.
In case you’re worried that your local may be one of the few that may be opening or closing differently, use the retailer’s trading hours tool.
When is Aldi open over the August bank holiday?
What time you can pop into an Aldi, recently crowned the UK’s cheapest supermarket, will depend on where in the UK you live.
Branches in England and Wales will be open from 8am until 8pm on the August Bank Holiday, the retailer has confirmed.
Shoppers in Scotland, however, have two extra hours to do any last-minute purchases, as Aldi locations will shut at 10pm instead.

When is Tesco open over the August bank holiday?
When it comes to whether a Tesco is open on the August Bank Holiday, it’s location, location, location.
Most of the larger stores, such as Tesco superstores or Extras, across England, Wales and the Isle of Man will be open from 8am to 6pm.
Small branches, such as Express and Metro stores, will be open from 8am to 6pm.
The majority of its branches in Scotland will be open from 8am to 8pm. Northern Ireland’s Tesco sites will be operating their typical trading hours.

When is Iceland open over the August bank holiday?
Well, the country is open all day, but you’re probably not looking for the border’s opening and closing times.
Iceland, the frozen food giant, will remain open as usual on the bank holiday.
When is Lidl open over the August bank holiday?
The supermarket chain Lidl is usually unaffected by bank holidays.
Lidl usually opens at 8am and shuts at 10pm, but you can always use its store locator if you’re not in the mood to be greeted by a closed sign.
When is Morrisons open over the August bank holiday?
Morrisons has confirmed its bank holiday weekend opening hours will vary from branch to branch.
For the most part, though, stores will open their doors at 7am and close at 8pm.
A few will operate with reduced hours, opening at 8am and closing earlier at 5pm.

When is Waitrose open over the August bank holiday?
Waitrose, on the posher end of Britain’s supermarkets, says some of its stores ‘may have reduced hours’ over the August Bank Holiday.
‘Please check the hours for your local store by clicking “Our shops” on our website,’ the retailer adds.
When is Sainsbury’s open over the August bank holiday?
Sainsbury’s has announced that the bulk of its supermarkets will be open from 8am to 8pm on Monday, August 25, 2025.
Small convenience stores, called Sainsbury’s Local, will open their doors from 7am to 11pm.
