Fuming resident blocks street to stop parents using it to drop kids at school

Fuming locals have upped the ante in their war with local parents as they blocked their street to stop it being used as a school drop-off point.

The Meadowcroft estate is connected by footpath to St Hilda’s Preparatory School for Girls in Bushey, Hertfordshire, which makes it the perfect place for parents to drop off their daughters.

But residents have taken more drastic action after ANPR cameras and £100 penalty charges failed to dissuade all parents.

The cameras were installed on the private road about a year and a half ago – and it’s only been a couple of months since graffiti reading ‘private road’ appeared at the entrance to the estate.

One resident has now started blocking the footpath leading to the school with their car to try and prevent the drop-offs.

But one St Hilda’s parent says they’re ‘genuinely worried’ for their children’s safety.

And it’s been claimed there have been further verbal clashes as parents kept using the cul-de-sac to drop their kids off for summer activities during the school holidays.

The 41-year-old dad, who received two fines costing £120 in total for parking there last year, said: ‘We completely respect the residents’ right to privacy and we don’t want to intrude.

‘Parents are genuinely worried for their children’s safety and we just want to take our children to and from school.

‘Now we have to park on the other side and navigate quite an extremely busy road everyday.

‘I don’t think we cause any disruption by walking through the area.’
