Galaxy transfer defender Miki Yamane to Japan’s Urawa Red Diamonds

The Galaxy said farewell to another important piece of their 2024 MLS Cup championship team, with a transfer of Miki Yamane to Japan’s J-League Urawa Red Diamonds.

Yamane, 32, joined the Galaxy ahead of 2024 after a career in Japan with the Shonan Bellmare and Kawasaki Frontale. Yamane just missed the 100-career appearance mark with the Galaxy, finishing with 99. He had a goal with 16 assists.

Yamane had made 16 appearances this season

“Miki has been a tremendous representative of the Galaxy during his time in Los Angeles,” Galaxy general manager Will Kuntz said. “He played an integral role in our 2024 MLS Cup championship run and has represented the Galaxy with tremendous class both on and off the field throughout his time with the club. We are grateful for everything Miki has given to the Galaxy and wish him and his family all the best as he begins this next chapter of his career back in Japan.”

Yamane is the fifth member of the Galaxy to be moved before or during the current transfer window, joining Mauricio Cuevas, Matheus Nascimento, Gabriel Pec and Edwin Cerrillo.
