Versace said “with this collection” she wanted to “put herself to the test”.
“It felt like a challenge. I am at home in Milan. For me, exhibiting in Los Angeles was stepping out of my comfort zone. When I create a collection, I want to feel insecure… Maybe I’m crazy, but these questions help me grow and improve,” she told L’Officiel.
The designer continues: “After all the street style of the last few years, I wanted luxury. I’ve been working on improving the basics of the Maison Versace, from Gianni’s work. I started with a 1995 collection and discovered a renewed desire for tailoring, architecture, shapes and cuts.”

Discussing her decision to show the collection in Los Angeles, she said she wanted a “change” this season.
“Although I love Milan, which has made great strides as a metropolis and as a fashion city with global resonance, I wanted to experience a different environment,” Donatella told the outlet. “I also longed to do something outdoors, with a more direct, closer connection to nature. I felt the need to create a unique experience. So I thought of Los Angeles – a city that I love and am very attached to.”
When asked what the city means to her, she said: “I go to LA a lot. I love the two stories it tells. The most glamorous: one of cinema and celebrities. But also one of nature – the boys playing sports on the beach. Healthy, beautiful, sporty.”
Alongside the show, she also launched a scholarship program for fashion students from the LGTBQ+ community.
Commenting on the idea, Donatella said “it’s an initiative” that she believes in “with all my heart”.
“It was a true honor to visit the LGBT Center in Los Angeles to officially launch this mentoring program set up with the CFDA to support and directly interact with young students from the LGBTQ+ community,” she said.
