Guy Fieri says he will be in a wheelchair for 8 weeks after slip that sent him for emergency surgery

Guy Fieri is in a wheelchair and using crutches after a slip down some steps sent him to the emergency room.

During an interview Monday with Fox News Digital, the Sonoma County celebrity chef explained how he “exploded” his quad muscle in a fall, requiring emergency surgery.

“Yeah, it sucked,” Fieri said in the interview.

According to Fox News Digital, the Food Network star said he was filming his new show, “Flavor Town Food Fight,” when the slip down steps happened.

“I looked like I was probably doing the splits,” Fieri told Fox News Digital. “The doctor said he’s never seen — you know, in 20 years — he hasn’t seen a tear in the biggest, thickest part of your quad in half…This was right in the center of the whole quad muscle and it exploded.”

In addition to interrupting the shoot, Fieri told the outlet that being laid up impacted his Thanksgiving plans, forcing sons Hunter and Ryder and nephew Jules to cook the meal on the family ranch with Fieri “quarterbacking from the wheelchair and telling them what to do.”

“My son, Ryder, texted me from school and he said, ‘Well, I guess all the training you’ve given me and all the cooking I’ve been doing while I was at school, it was going to be my time to shine.’ And I said, ‘I am so happy you’re asking me about this versus me telling you, you have to do it,’” Fieri told the website.

Fieri added that he has been ordered by doctors to keep weight off the leg for eight weeks, and that he will be in a cast and will rehab his quad following that, according to the website.
