Nolan, a noted fan of the field watch brand, teamed up with Hamilton for the new Hamilton x The Odyssey Khaki Field, a celebration of mythical style debuting in two weeks as part of the release of Nolan’s The Odyssey film. Hamilton worked with the British director on a watch inspired by time-bending thriller Tenet, and also released the now-iconic Hamilton Murph Watch timed to Nolan’s space epic Interstellar.

Billed as “the watchmaker of filmmakers,” Hamilton’s history on the big screen dates back to the 1930s, while this latest watch harkens back to mythological times in Homer’s sweeping epic. As the horologist notes, “this limited Hamilton timepiece translates mythology into watchmaking,” with just 2,112 units available in a nod to the significance of the number 12 in Greek mythology, the company said.

Brought to life this summer by the likes of Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson and a star-studded ensemble cast, Nolan’s The Odyssey is one of the more hyped movies in recent memory, with stunning visuals already on display in its buzzed-about trailers. Releasing exclusively in theaters on July 17, the historical epic is set make history as the first narrative film to be shot entirely with IMAX cameras.

The film’s signature watch also arrives with plenty of fanfare, featuring bronze construction and details drawn from Damon’s Odysseus, including references on the dial to his helmet and sword. A rugged leather strap complements the clean, sleek dial handsomely, while Hamilton finished off the watch with an engraved titanium caseback boasting Nolan’s signature.

A replica of Athena’s pin from the film also arrives alongside the watch, as the brooch nods to Odysseus’ gift to his wife. “Consider this timepiece a must for fans of The Odyssey and a collector’s piece for Hamilton enthusiasts,” the company said.

A shield-inspired display box showcases the watch in heroic style, and the hard-wearing specs of the Khaki Field watch are as much a part of the timepiece as its age-old inspiration. “The result is a collector’s piece shaped equally by myth, filmmaking and watchmaking,” Hamilton said. Complete with the company’s H-10 automatic movement and housed within a sturdy 42mm case, the watch boasts an 80-hour power reserve and eye-catching design details like the Hamilton logo rendered in contrast on the black dial.

Even the bronze case that houses the $1,495 Hamilton x The Odyssey Khaki Field will develop its own patina over time, as will the textured brown leather strap. Only broad details are available about Nolan’s epic interpretation of The Odyssey, but for fans of the film and watch collectors alike, the latest Khaki Field is a near-perfect homage to a legendary tale. The Hamilton x The Odyssey Khaki Field releases in about two weeks alongside the film, and enthusiasts can sign up for more details online via Hamilton.
