UNION CITY — A Hayward woman has been arrested and charged with attempted robbery, more than a year after she allegedly pulled a gun on a man she met on a “sugar daddy” website, according to court records.
The 22-year-old Hayward woman was charged last week with a single count of attempted robbery and personal use of a firearm. The incident occurred in August 2024, after the victim arranged to pay $600 to a woman he met on a website that promises to link “sugar babies” and “sugar daddies,” according to police.
Instead, when the man arrived at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Union City and attempted to bring the woman up to his room, she pulled a gun on him, according to police. The victim allegedly lunged at the robber, thwarting the robbery, but she still made off with $40 he’d given her as a downpayment, police said.
Authorities allege that the woman was with two men who acted as “lookouts.” The men have not been charged.
Police are investigating whether she was also responsible for a strikingly similar incident in Newark, which occurred this past August.
The woman was released from jail without bail and is next due in court on Dec. 11, according to court records. She has not yet entered a plea.
