The Broncos inside linebacker room paid a steep price for the sequence that immediately followed Wil Lutz’s walk-off, 39-yard field goal Sunday against the New York Giants.
Dre Greenlaw, of course, got hit with a one-game suspension for chasing and verbally threatening referee Brad Allen, according to the NFL, which was upheld on appeal. He won’t play Sunday vs. Dallas and is out $292,778 when combining a game check and a $90,000 per-game roster bonus.
He’s not the only one impacted, though.
ILB Justin Strnad was also hit with a $15,546 fine for “making contact” with Allen after the game, the NFL announced Saturday. NFL VP of football administration Troy Vincent signaled earlier this week that Strnad would face a fine. Now the amount is known.
So, the grand total for Denver’s inside linebacker room: $308,324 plus a game missed for Greenlaw.
Turner up. Also on Saturday, the Broncos elevated inside linebacker Jordan Turner from the practice squad for Sunday’s game against the Cowboys. Denver is down two ILBs with Greenlaw suspended and Garret Wallow on injured reserve with a hamstring injury.
Turner is the third inside linebacker to get elevated from the practice squad already this season, joining Levelle Bailey and Wallow before he was promoted to the 53-man roster.
