An 18-year-old high school senior and a 38-year-old man were killed Thursday night while driving in the Garfield Park neighborhood.
The teen and a 38-year-old man were in a southbound white Honda Civic in the 200 block of North Homan Avenue when a grey SUV pulled alongside them and someone inside opened fire, police said.
The unidentified teen, who was in a back seat, suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his body and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.
The teen was a senior at Christ the King Jesuit College Preparatory School, 5088 W. Jackson Blvd., according to a police report. School spokesman Mike Smith declined to share further details, as they are trying to consoling his family and providing support for his classmates.
The driver also suffered gunshot wounds and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to the medical examiner’s office.
The shooter fled in the SUV, a Hyundai Tucson, which was found later on fire in the 900 block of North Lawler Avenue, police said.
No other injuries were reported and no one has been arrested.
