High wind watch affecting Delta from Tuesday to Friday – wind gusts reaching 60 mph

Delta is the focus of a high wind watch issued at 10:25 a.m. on Monday by the National Weather Service. The watch is valid from Tuesday 4 p.m. until Friday Dec. 26, at 4 p.m.

“South winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 60 mph possible,” the NWS Sacramento CA said. “Strongest wind gusts expected in the northern Sacramento Valley and adjacent foothills on Wednesday.”

“Strong winds and saturated soils could blow down trees and power lines resulting in widespread power outages. Strong winds may cause impacts to unsecured items, including temporary structures and holiday decorations. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles,” according to the NWS. “Monitor the latest forecasts and warnings for updates.”

Strong winds are occurring but are not so strong as to warrant a High wind warning. Objects that are outdoors should be secured and caution should be taken if driving.

Sustained, strong winds are possible. Secure loose outdoor items and adjust plans as necessary so you’re not caught outside.
