High wind watch issued for Northern California for Tuesday and Wednesday – gusts as high as 60 mph

Northern California is under a high wind watch which was released by the National Weather Service on Sunday at 8:49 p.m. The watch is valid from Tuesday 7 p.m. until Wednesday Dec. 24, at 4 a.m.

The NWS San Francisco CA said, “South winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 60 mph possible.”

“Damaging winds could down trees, snap power lines, and result in property damage. Widespread power outages are possible. Travel could be extremely difficult and hazardous, especially for high profile vehicles. The combination of wind and moist soils will increase the risk for downed trees,” according to the NWS. “Monitor the latest forecasts and warnings for updates. Secure loose outdoor objects that could be blown around or damaged by the wind.”

Sustained, strong winds with even stronger gusts are happening. Seek shelter. If you are driving, keep both hands on the wheel and slow down.

Strong winds are occurring but are not so strong as to warrant a High wind warning. Objects that are outdoors should be secured and caution should be taken if driving.

Sustained, strong winds are possible. Secure loose outdoor items and adjust plans as necessary so you’re not caught outside.
