Horror bus crash leaves SEVENTEEN injured & rushed to hospital after double-deckers smash into each other in Manchester

TWO double deckers have smashed into each other – leaving 17 people injured.

The buses collided on busy Manchester thoroughfare Rochdale Road at around 8.30am this morning.

Eyewitnesses said the front of one bus smashed into the rear of the other, shunting it off the road.

Both Manchester Bee Network buses were badly mangled by the crash and the road was strewn with shattered glass.

All three emergency services scrambled to the scene – with fire crews pulling one person from the top deck of the bus.

A total of 17 people were raced to hospital following the horror smash.

None of the people’s injuries are thought to be serious, cops said in a statement.

Local Harry Yearsley told the Manchester Evening News: “We got woken up at about 8.20am and we just heard a really loud bang.

“We came out because it’s literally right next to our house. Within five minutes we heard the air ambulance.”

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: “At around 8.45am this morning, two fire engines were called to a crash involving two buses on Rochdale Road.

“Crews arrived quickly and worked with Greater Manchester Police and North West Ambulance Service to make the area safe.

“Firefighters extricated one person from the upper deck of the bus and 13 casualties were transferred to North Manchester General Hospital under the care of North West Ambulance Service. “

A spokesperson added: “Fire crews were in attendance for just over an hour.”

The North West Ambulance Service later raised the number of casualties to 17.

Greater Manchester Police said: “At 8.30am this morning we were called to reports of a road traffic collision between two buses.

“Emergency services are at the scene on Rochdale Road, and road closures remain in place. No serious injuries have been reported.”
