Tickets will be available at 9 a.m. Friday, May 29, for a “Toy Story 5” pop-up put on by Papa Johns Pizza in the Beverly Grove neighborhood of Los Angeles.
“Papa Johns Pizza Planet” will take place from noon to 7 p.m. on June 12 at 8180 Melrose Ave., about a half mile west of Fairfax Avenue.
The event will be set in a fictional pizzeria first seen in the original, 1995 “Toy Story.”
Attractions will include personal pizzas, immersive photo ops, and, yes, a claw machine, according to Eventbrite, where people will be able to sign up for time slots to go through the attraction. Reservations will be available on the hour.
It is the first of four Papa John’s pop-ups worldwide, according to a news release from the Atlanta and Louisville-based chain. The others are in London, Madrid, and Seoul.
There’s more to the tie-in. Three personal “Toy Story 5” pizzas are available at Papa Johns: Space Ranger Roni, Reach for the Pie, and Sheriff’s Roundup. They are served with Rootin’ Tootin’ Ranch dipping sauce in “Toy Story” boxes. And rewards members can play an n-app game called “Operation Pizza” beginning Monday, June 1.
“Toy Story 5” will open wide on June 19. The Pixar film features the voice talents of Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, and other cast members from earlier installments in the franchise.
Papa Johns is not the only business with “Toy Story 5” tie-ins – or claws for that matter.
On May 24, the nearby Grove shopping center hosted a giant claw from Kellogg’s, which is giving away “Toy Story” collectibles in boxes of Frosted Flakes, Froot Loops, and other cereals. The attraction was one day only.
