IDNR will have all northern sites stocked for trout opener

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources will have all its northern sites stocked with rainbow trout in time for the opener, Saturday, Oct. 18.

The stockings were delayed statewide by the heat this fall (such delays have become mpore common in the fall in recent years with climate change), but weather has been closer to fall temperatures recently.

Cook County: Axehead, Belleau, Busse Woods North, Green, Horsetail, Sag Quarry East, Wolf Lake at William W. Powers State Recreation Area

DuPage: Grove, Pickerel, Silver

Kankakee: Bird Park Quarry, Rock Creek at Kankakee River State Park

Kendall: Big Lake at Silver Springs State Fish and Wildlife Area

Lake: Sand Lake at Illinois Beach SP

McHenry: Spring Grove Hatchery Pond, Lake Atwood

Will: Lake Strini, Van Horn Woods.

A fishing license and inland trout stamp are required. Daily bag is five.

The IDNR posted this on the 14 Downstate waters that will not be stocked before the opener:

Fourteen lakes in central and southern Illinois will have delayed stocking schedules, but they all will be stocked by Saturday, Oct. 25. Those lakes are:
