Fans of IKEA, get out your stubby little pencils and mark Saturday, Aug. 8, on your calendars.
That’s when IKEA’s “first-ever “Meatballbecue” will take place at the big-box furniture chain’s Covina store.
The buffet will be indoors and have three seatings at 11:30 a.m., 12:45 p.m. and 2 p.m., according to a news release.
The menu will feature Swedish meatballs on skewers and a crispy haddock Fish Ball, a new item in IKEA’s in-store cafeterias, formerly called Swedish Restaurants.
Swedish meatballs, made with beef and pork, are IKEA’s most famous food item and a popular, affordable meal for shoppers who want to pause on their journeys through the chain’s massive showrooms. A plate costs $10-$13 and comes with mashed potatoes and signature Lingonberry Jam, made from a Scandinavian berry.
Cafeterias also serve traditional American-style breakfasts, chicken, salmon, salads, desserts and slices of cake.
Most IKEAs also have bistros near their checkout stands and grocery sections selling frozen meatballs, lingonberry syrup and snacks.
Tickets for the Meatballecue cost $17.99 for adults and $6.99 for children. There’s also a family price at $14.99 for adults and $4.99 for kids. Tickets can be purchased in-store.
The event takes place during IKEA’s summer storage sale, the release notes.
IKEA is a global brand founded in Sweden and specializing in furniture with Nordic names that customers assemble themselves with Allen wrenches and Phillips head screwdrivers. The Covina store occupies more than 300,000 square feet on three levels.
It is at 848 S Barranca Ave. on a ridge overlooking the Eastland Center and Jollibee’s North America headquarters.
