Infant girl killed in Englewood abused earlier this year

A 6-month-old baby whose death was ruled a homicide over the weekend suffered a skull fracture and was allegedly abused earlier this year, according to a police report.

Kloe Sophia Bastos Bastillos’ mother went to check on her when she found the infant face down on her mattress about 11 p.m. in the 7200 block of South Winchester Avenue, according to police reports and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Her mother then turned her over and found she had a pale blue face and was not breathing, the police report said.

The baby’s father called 911, took the infant into the living room and placed her into her stroller, according to the report, which said the child suffered a skull fracture.

Paramedics tried to save the baby’s life but she was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 11:46 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

An autopsy Sunday determined she died of “multiple injuries,” from child abuse and her death was ruled a homicide.

According to the police report, the girl’s parents told police that a previous police report for child abuse had been generated earlier this year, but details were not immediately available.

No one is in custody and Area 1 detectives are investigating.
