Inside A Secret Luxury Wellness Retreat Hidden In The Four Seasons Costa Rica

(Four Seasons Peninsula Papagayo, Costa Rica)

The Four Seasons seeks to offer the pinnacle of luxury wellness at this hilltop villa in Costa Rica with a personal wellness advisor, a private chef, private training sessions and classes, spa treatments, and a customized fitness plan from the world’s top human performance scientist. Since opening in late 2025, the Wellness Villa at Casa Del Mar has become a favorite retreat for movie stars, pro athletes, and high-stress executives looking for a dose of inner peace.

The Four Seasons Resort in Costa Rica became the first luxury resort on the private, gated Peninsula Papagayo in 2004. It has since been joined on the peninsula by the Andaz and the Ritz-Carlton Reserve, but The Four Seasons’ position at the tip of the peninsula gives it unmatched views and beaches on both sides of the property. The Wellness Villa is designed to maximize those sweeping views of the ocean and the bay. Getting onto the gated peninsula is the first layer of privacy. Getting into the Four Seasons property is the next layer of privacy. Then to access the Wellness Villa, you have to take a golf cart ride into the wooded back of the property, where a gate opens revealing an inner sanctum—a private wellness resort within the resort.

What Is The Wellness Villa At Casa Del Mar?

The Wellness Villa at Casa del Mar is a fully immersive, residential-style experience that combines advanced health technology, expert-led programming, and holistic practices into what they describe as a “lifestyle intervention” in the most private and luxurious setting that The Four Seasons could create.

Arnaud Dieutegard, Senior Wellness & Spa Director at The Four Seasons Peninsula Papagayo, created the retreat to offer a kind of experience he sees the top tier of luxury travel shifting to. On a recent trip to the resort, Dieutegard gave me a tour of the ultra-private villa. Driving up to it through a canopy of tropical flora, the villa is spread out for privacy along the spine of a hill, with separate structures for a gym and a guest casita.

Stepping inside the villa, a wall of glass reveals a massive patio with an outdoor dining room, an infinity pool, and views of Culebra Bay and the Pacific Ocean. The living space and kitchen sit between two large primary suites for privacy, as the villa was designed to host two couples. Guests here often travel with personal assistants or children and nannies, who can stay in the adjoining cottage.

What Can You Do At the Wellness Villa?

Every stay is supported by a dedicated team that includes a wellness advisor, expert trainers or practitioners, and a chef. A wellness plan is created for each guest based on their physiology and goals, whether you’re a pro athlete striving for peak performance or a corporate executive looking to decompress. The range of options is vast; from modern VO₂ Max programs to ancient techniques like sound bathing, acupuncture, and yoga, to a full array of spa treatments. All activities are in synch with a nutrition plan coordinated with a private chef.

What does that actually look like day-to-day for guests? Here are some examples of recent retreats….

Dr. Andy Galpin is one of the world’s top human performance scientists and has teamed up with The Four Seasons for this Wellness Villa. He’ s been on Andrew Huberman’s podcast half a dozen times and consults with the world’s most elite fitness tier—from pro sports leagues to special forces. Recently, a four-day wellness immersion was designed by Galpin for performance and longevity. Galpin and the villa’s Wellness advisor coordinated a fully personalized itinerary including VO₂ max testing, movement assessments, nutrition guidance, yoga, meditation, recovery protocols, and lifestyle recommendations.

A retreat was recently curated for female Silicon Valley executives, designed specifically for mental clarity, stress recovery, and inspired leadership. It combined customized nutrition, spa treatments, daily yoga, meditation, sound healing, and nervous system regulation techniques.

For a pro golfer, a fitness and recovery program was centered on mobility training, strength and stability exercises, recovery therapies, and movement-focused yoga designed to improve performance on the course while also reducing fatigue and injury risk.

An experience like this offers all the privacy of a standalone luxury villa, the self-improvement component of a nutritionist and a team of trainers, plus the brand recognition and resources of a large resort within a global luxury brand. Brands like The Four Seasons are always in search of that next level of luxury for guests whose lives are a constant pursuit, and at Peninsula Papagayo, they’ve certainly found it.
