Taron Egerton told The Telegraph he doesn’t think he’s the right actor to play James Bond.
Egerton said he doesn’t have Bond’s “statuesque” physique and struggles with his weight.
Egerton is currently promoting Tetris, his new Apple TV+ film about the popular video game.
Although there are rumors he could potentially play James Bond, Taron Egerton doesn’t think he’s physically fit for the iconic role.
“I don’t think I’m the right choice for this,” Egerton said in an interview with The Telegraph published on Saturday. “You have to be consistently statuesque to be this guy. And that’s something I’m still striving for. I’ve always struggled with my weight.”
In the interview, Egerton said that portraying Bond “is a bit like being both a brand ambassador and an actor. And that could be really fun in microcosm, but I’m sure I read that Barbara Broccoli said it was a 15-year commitment.”
Barbara Broccoli produces the Bond franchise with her half-brother Michael G. Wilson.
Broccoli has been open about the casting decisions for the Bond film series in the past and once said she doesn’t foresee a woman playing James Bond in the future.
“He can be any color, but he’s male,” Broccoli told Variety in 2020. “I think we should create new characters for women — strong female characters.” I’m not particularly keen on taking a male character and having a woman play it. I think women are far more interesting than that.”

“It’s kind of irrelevant how I feel about it because I can tell you there’s been zero calls,” Egerton said.
This isn’t the first time Egerton has denied rumors he’s taking on the role of 007.
Earlier this month, Egerton told Total Film magazine that while he’s never been involved in talks about portraying Bond, he “would be a very willing viewer”.

The next actor to play Bond will take on Daniel Craig, who left the franchise after 2021’s No Time to Die.
Fans of the franchise have suggested that actor Idris Elba take on the role, but Elba isn’t so keen.
“I don’t think playing Bond will fulfill some of my personal goals,” Elba said on a September 2022 episode of HBO’s The Shop. “It will definitely satisfy the will of a nation, I will not lie. Every corner of the world I go to… they always say ‘Bond’. And I feel like it’s beyond me at this point.”
Egerton is currently promoting his new Apple TV+ movie, Tetris.
Set in the 1980s and based on a true story, the film follows businessman Henk Rogers (Egerton) on his journey to the Soviet Union to work with Tetris creator Alexey Pajitnov (Nikita Efremov) to create the video game to make known worldwide sensation.
Tetris is out March 31 on Apple TV+.
