Kacey Musgraves is turning up the heat in a sultry new music video for “Mexico Honey,” the latest hit off her May 2026 LP, Middle of Nowhere.
“We’re gonna ride this wave ’til it breaks,” declares the Grammy-winning superstar as she sways on stage in hot pink shorts, dances around a hotel bedroom and enchants a python South of the Border. And a similar pair of hot pink shorts worn by Musgraves in the video are now for sale on the singer’s Web site.
The single arrives off her her sixth studio album, which debuted at number three on the Billboard Hot 200 in May, according to the music publication. The latest Musgrave video, directed by the Running Bear duo of Alexa Stone and Stephen Kinihopoulos, memorably features Musgraves in the raw and depicts her as a “tiger in the sheets” in what music publication Pitchfork rightfully calls a “steamy” clip.
The former Maxim Hot 100 star told Billboard in a press release that the vibrant music video is “just as much a tribute to the captivating beauty of Mexico as it is the passion and experiences that have inspired her there.” Musgraves leans into the sultry appeal of the video and the Mexican heat, lending more hype to a track that recently hit number 59 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Spirited along by clever lead single “Dry Spell,” the “Merry Go ‘Round” singer returned to her Nashville roots following the distinct New York City inspiration behind 2024 album Deeper Well. To celebrate her latest full-length release, Musgraves even appeared at Coachella 2026 to perform songs off the new LP, Rolling Stone notes.
With its lead single “Dry Spell,” Musgraves noted her most recent album arrived during the longest single period of her adult life, following her 2020 divorce from fellow country singer Ruston Kelly. No stranger to introspection, Billboard notes that, prior to Middle of Nowhere, the Grammy-nominated Deeper Well and its 14 songs covered several “shifts and choices made along the way” in her life’s journey.
Her latest hit album joins 2021’s Star-Crossed and more recent tracks like the Grammy-winning Deeper Well hit “I Remember Everything” alongside rocker Zach Bryan. Musgraves has been nominated for a whopping 17 Grammy Awards, taking home eight, including a top country solo artist honor for 2019’s “Butterflies.”
In 2018, Musgraves also drew widespread critical acclaim with another Grammy winner, the deeply emotional Golden Hour, released through MCA Nashville and later taking home honors as the year’s best contemporary country album. The LP garnered serious crossover appeal among fans of moody indie and alternative rock, winning a remarkable Album of the Year Grammy, the first country album to do so since 2010.
