The King wants Commoner Andrew Mounbatten Windsor to lose his last honorary military rank.

The Minister of Defence John Healey has confirmed they are working to remove the title as King Charles had ‘indicated that’s what he wishes’.

Despite being stripped of his title as Prince on Thursday, Mr Mountbatten Windsor kept his rank as a Vice Admiral in the Royal Navy.

He gave up all of his other military positions in 2022.

Mr Healey told the BBC: ‘This is a move that’s right, it’s a move the King has indicated we should take and we’re working on that at the moment.’

Mr Mountbatten Windsor had a 22-year career in the Royal Navy, and also served as a helicopter pilot in the Falklands War.

But following his links to disgraced paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein he has either given up or has been stripped of his royal titles.

Royal author Valentine Low said: ‘Royals, and particularly Andrew, are very proud and determined to hang onto military titles.

‘It seems the King is intent on taking absolutely everything away from his brother. It’s a flinty eyed ruthlessness he’s displaying.’

On Thursday, Buckingham Palace said the monarch has ‘initiated a formal process to remove the Style, Titles and Honours of Prince Andrew’.

They said: ‘Prince Andrew will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor. His lease on Royal Lodge has, to date, provided him with legal protection to continue in residence.

‘Formal notice has now been served to surrender the lease and he will move to alternative private accommodation.

‘These censures are deemed necessary, notwithstanding the fact that he continues to deny the allegations against him.’
