Los Angeles County leaders dedicated the new Maritime Public Safety dock in Marina Del Rey on Monday, Sept. 28.
The $18 million dock and facilities will serve as the coastal response hub for the Fire Department’s Lifeguard Division and Sheriff’s Department Harbor Patrol and Los Angeles County Harbor Patrol.
L.A. County Fire Chief Anthony Marrone, Sheriff Robert Luna and Supervisor Holly Mitchell were on hand for the ceremony.
The facility is located adjacent to the Marina del Rey sheriff’s station. It replaces a 1960s-era dock structure, according to officials, so it can accommodate larger emergency vessels, oversee around-the-clock search-and-rescue efforts and take on more equipment storage.
