A vegetation fire triggered an emergency response Saturday after 2 p.m. as Los Angeles County Fire Department ground units and water-dropping aircraft rushed to contain the blaze near the intersection of the 14 Freeway and Pearblossom Highway.
Dubbed the Lemon fire, the flames spread from an initial 15 acres to 167 acres. Incident commanders warned conditions could quickly expand the burn area up to 200 acres, prompting officials to alert nearby communities for potential evacuations, according to Watch Duty, a non-profit app that tracks wildfires.
Shifting winds were pushing the flames eastward, prompting authorities to expand the safety perimeter beyond the highway interchange. Fire officials identified the 34600 block of Rough Road as an area facing an immediate threat.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
