Donald Trump turns 80 next month, and it looks like he’s freaking out over his age a little.
The president swapped politics for pleasure this weekend, attending the LIV Golf tournament at Trump National Golf Club in Virginia.
While chatting with his son, Eric, behind bulletproof glass (the POTUS has been the subject of a string of assassination attempts), professional lipreader Nicola Hickling claims he revealed his concerns over ageing.
Hickling said that Trump brought up previous comments made by one of his children about his looming birthday to Eric.
According to the Mirror, the president reportedly said: ‘Yes, we were talking and he said, “Dad, you know you’re going to be 80 years old?”‘
Hickling then claimed Trump’s reaction to the statement was: ‘After he said this, I felt old.’
However, he allegedly quickly followed up with: ‘You’re only as old as you feel, right?’, while wagging his finger towards his son.
The comments about Trump’s age follow multiple reports that the president may not be in the best of health.
Since re-entering the office in January 2025 as the 47th president of the United States, Trump’s ill health has sparked multiple rumours and conspiracy theories — including mass social media speculation that he had died in August.
Last year, he was diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency, a condition in which veins have trouble moving blood back to the heart.
The diagnosis explained why Trump had been seen with swollen legs.
Most recently, in March, photographers captured a red rash on his neck at a Medal of Honour Ceremony in The White House.
Trump’s office didn’t comment on the mark, which led to people online suspecting it could be an allergic reaction or shingles outbreak.
The rash came only weeks after Trump was spotted with a dark bruise on his left hand at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
During his flight back from Europe to the US, a reporter asked the president about the mark, to which he brushed off as a ‘clip on the table.’
Trump said: ‘I’m very good. I clipped it on the table. So, I put a little – what do they call it? – cream on it. But I clipped it.’
The 79-year-old also claimed that his recurring bruising is caused by the amount of aspirin he takes daily to prevent a heart attack or stroke.
Trump said: ‘I would say take aspirin if you like your heart. But don’t take aspirin if you don’t want to have a little bruising. I take the big aspirin.
‘And when you take the big aspirin, they tell you you’ll bruise.’
The president’s doctor, Sean Barbabella, previously revealed that Trump takes a daily 325mg aspirin dose. However, the NHS states that the usual dose to prevent a heart attack or stroke is 75mg once a day (a regular strength tablet for pain relief is 300mg).
Trump later made a bizarre statement to the Wall Street Journal about his daily intake. While explaining that aspirin is good for ‘thinning out the blood,’ he said he didn’t want ‘thick blood pouring through [his] heart.’
Instead, he said he wanted ‘nice, thin blood pouring through my heart.’ He added: ‘Does that make sense? They’d rather have me take the smaller one, but I take the larger one, but I’ve done it for years, and what it does do is it causes bruising.’
Last month, Trump made another rare admission about his health.
Speaking on CNBC’s Squawk Box, he took aim at former President Joe Biden, who he said ‘couldn’t walk up the stairs.’
Trump, who has famously been a longtime critic of Biden and nicknamed him ‘Sleepy Joe,’ said: ‘Forget about down, he couldn’t walk up a flight. He was falling all over the place.’
The president then admitted that he himself has ‘to be careful.’
He continued: ‘That’s why when I get out of those planes, I walk nice and slowly. I’m not looking to set any speed records.’
Overall though, it seems that Trump isn’t too worried about his health.
Earlier this month, he hosted business leaders at The White House and quipped that he has at least another two terms in him, which some took as a threat to challenge the 22nd Amendment provision that ‘no person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice.’
Trump said: ‘When I get out of office in, let’s say, eight or nine years from now, I’ll be able to use it [referring to tax deductions]. I’ll be able to use it myself.’
He also launched into a rant about how physically and mentally fit he still is.
