Flights have resumed at some major UK airports after the air traffic control service experienced a ‘technical issue’.
Problems at Swanwick Centre, which manages air traffic over much of England and Wales, caused hundreds of flights to be grounded.
London’s airspace has been closed to flights for safety reasons, with the departure board for Heathrow completely blank.
Nats, the air traffic control provider, has confirmed that all departures at major airports, including Heathrow, Stansted and Manchester, have resumed.
‘We are working with affected airlines and airports to clear the backlog safely,’ Nats added.
