Malibu’s downtown nature park is becoming an open-air art gallery as artists pay tribute to the beauty of the seaside city with hundreds of pieces of work, covering the gamut from photography to portraits to abstract art.
“It’s a pop-up kind of thing, it’s in beautiful Legacy Park which is a community park for Malibu and all visitors to the area,” said Barbara Freund, one of the organizers of the Legacy Park Art Walk. The free monthly event, which happens from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on Sundays on May 17, June 14, July 12, Aug. 9, and Sept. 13.
Coordinated by the Malibu Arts Association and hosted by the City of Malibu Arts Commission, these free monthly events feature local artists showcasing and selling original artwork and prints inspired by Malibu.
People can expect to see fine art, oil paintings, water colors, photography, sculpture and more forms of art as they walk though the picturesque park, which includes a walking trail, permanent mosaic sculptures, a butterfly garden, plus a pond with ducks, egrets and herons.
“It’s a very busy, hopping kind of environment,” Freund said.
Some of the funds from the art sales are donated to local high school students.
Legacy Park is located at 23500 Civic Center Way, Malibu. For more information go to malibucity.org
