Man, 21, critically wounded in Washington Park shooting

A 21-year-old man is in critical condition after being shot Friday in the Washington Park neighborhood.

He was in a car in a parking lot about noon in the 6200 block of South Michigan Avenue when someone in another car pulled up next to him. Someone else got out of the other car and fired shots, Chicago police said.

The man suffered gunshot wounds to the chest and right shoulder, police said. He was taken in critical condition to University of Chicago Medical Center.

A woman at the scene told the Sun-Times she had earlier picked up her 18-year-old son from school when someone in a white Kia followed her home and into the parking lot of her apartment building at 6253 S. Michigan Ave.

The woman, who did not want to be named, said the Kia blocked her into a parking spot. Shortly after, someone else jumped out and opened fire.

“I’m just glad my son wasn’t hurt,” she said. She also was not injured.

The suspects then jumped back in the Kia and drove off, she said.

No arrests were reported.
