Man, 78, dies after going inside burning Englewood home

A man who went back inside a burning Englewood home to retrieve personal items died Saturday.

Sometime before noon Saturday, firefighters responded to the blaze at a coach house in the 5700 block of South Princeton Avenue, according to the Chicago Fire Department.

The 78-year-old man went back into the home to grab something but was overcome by the blaze, fire officials said.

He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 12:46 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

The fire was caused by something electrical and was deemed accidental.
