Police identified the driver accused of running over and killing a cyclist last month in Long Beach as a 39-year-old man killed in a Customs and Border Patrol shooting days later.
Kenneth Richard Sok of Long Beach was accused of intentionally striking a man experiencing homelessness who was biking near Cowles Street and Santa Fe Avenue around 2:40 a.m. on July 6 and fleeing the scene, police said Friday, Aug. 28.
Officers found the victim, 51-year-old Gerado Mejia, in the road. Paramedics rendered medical aid, but he died at the scene.
Sok died in a Customs and Border Patrol shooting on July 10. Police didn’t provide further details on the shooting, and federal officials didn’t immediately respond to a request for information.
