Officials are trying to figure out what caused a fire that left a man dead early Tuesday on the West Side.
Chicago police and fire officials responded to the blaze around 1 a.m. at an apartment building in the 300 block of South Kilpatrick Avenue, police said.
An unidentified man believed to be about 50 years old was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, officials said.
Thirteen adults and 10 minors safely escaped the building, authorities said.
The fire department was investigating.
